SOUTHSIDE LOCAL EMPLOYMENT SERVICE – Information Volunteers
Volunteers required for a 4 week project in the Social Welfare office Dun Laoghaire in March 2012. This initiative is to provide information to those who find themselves unemployed for the first time and do not know what local services exist. The role of the volunteers will be to distribute information cards which sign- post people to local available services and volunteers will need to be empathetic, friendly and with good communication skills. Local knowledge of the area would be an advantage.
Interested volunteers will be required to attend an induction training course on Tues Feb 21st in Blackrock 10.00am- 12.30pm
Volunteers required for either a morning or afternoon shift 9.30-12.00 or 2.00pm-4.00pm one day a week for the 4 weeks of March.
PLAY DAYS PRE-SCHOOL PLAYGROUP – Assistant Play Leader
Volunteers are needed to help out with children in a community playgroup based in Shanganagh Park House, Shankill. Volunteers will be required to follow curriculum, be part of a team, help set up and tidy up, and adhere to policies and procedures. Volunteers should have an interest in working with pre-school children, ability to take initiative, and be sociable and outgoing. A qualification is an advantage but not necessary. Volunteers are needed for 2 mornings a week.
BALALLY FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE – Computer Tutors
Volunteers with good computer and communication skills are required to teach one to one basic computer skills to older people using a laptop. The computer sessions take place 2.30 to 4.00 on Wednesday and Thurs afternoons for 6 weeks.
ST JOHN OF GOD HOSPITAL SHANKILL
St John of God Hospital is a Dementia Specific Centre for the long term care of dementia patients at the palliative stage of their illness, plus weekly respite and day care facilities for those in the community suffering from dementia related illness. They need various volunteers.
Receptionists – friendly and welcoming volunteers are equired as receptionists, to answer the phone and meet and greet visitors. Volunteers are needed between 6.00 and 8.00pm on weekdays and mornings and afternoons at the weekends. Volunteers should be able to commit to 2 hours a week for a year.
Volunteers to assist with feeding - volunteers with patience and a kind heart are required to assist dementia sufferers with eating meals. Meal times are 12.00 - 1.30pm and 4.30- 5.30 pm every day. A commitment of 12 months is desirable.
Volunteers to join in with activities – volunteers need to provide assistance to Activities Coordinator in provision of dementia specific activities: gentle exercises, use of oils, poetry, aromatherapy, reminiscence therapy. Volunteers also required to assist with activities in the day-care centre such as arts/crafts, singalongs and bingo. Volunteers are needed for a couple of hours a week during afternoons or evenings.
